Toyota Highlander Service Manual: Problem symptoms table

Use the table below to help you find the cause of the problem. The causes of the problem are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column. Check each part in order. If necessary, replace these parts.

  2.  Excessive backlash between pinion and ring gear
  3.  Ring, pinion or side gears (Worn or chipped)
